Westhampton Beach Elementary School held an open house at its greenhouse on June 4 to showcase the budding gardening skills of all students.

Students provided information on the greenhouse to parents and community members by manning several stations, including ones related to composting, planting and caring for vegetable sprouts.

The students have been learning about gardening since January though a PTA-sponsored program in which they visit the greenhouse several times a month to learn from farm educator Renato Stafford, owner of Homegrown Organic Food, Inc. They grew arugula, broccoli rabe and spinach microgreens during the winter and are now working on growing tomatoes and other vegetables.
