To recognize its Class of 2020, the Westhampton Beach School District lined its fence along Mill Road with giant posters featuring the faces of the 224 high school seniors poised to graduate this year.

The initiative was overseen by Board of Education member Stacy Rubio, whose son is among the graduating class. She previously spearheaded a sign tribute in which a green and white graduation lawn sign was delivered to each senior’s home.

The posters were funded by individual families, along with assistance from the high school’s parent teacher organization.

“This was so important for not only our seniors, but parents and our wonderful community,” said Rubio.

Adhering to social distancing guidelines, a team of nine parent volunteers worked for several hours on May 7 to string up the posters, which seniors will get to keep when they are eventually taken down.

The district has additional plans in the works to further honor the graduating class.
