Student Dress Code The responsibility to come to school dressed appropriately for district students rests with each student, his/her parents, the building administration, faculty and staff. Students and parents have the right to determine school dress providing the attire complies with requirements for health and safety, and does not interfere with the educational process. Furthermore, it is expected that dress reflect current community standards and deportment. A student's dress, grooming and appearance, including hair style/color, jewelry, make-up, and nails, shall:
Head coverings, with the exception of head coverings for religious and/or medical purposes, are forbidden in the classroom. Head coverings may be worn in school hallways. The Board requires students to wear appropriate protective gear in certain classes (e.g. family & consumer science, technology, lab sciences, physical education). In addition to the above guidelines, the school administration reserves the right to make determinations regarding appropriateness of attire on an individual basis. Each Building Principal or his/her designee shall be responsible for informing all students and their parents of the student dress code at the beginning of the school year and any revisions to the dress code made during the school year. Students who violate the student dress code shall be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the offending item, and if necessary or practical, replacing it with an acceptable item. Any student who refuses to do so shall be subject to discipline, up to and including in-school suspension for the day. Any student who repeatedly fails to comply with the dress code shall be subject to further discipline, up to and including out of school suspension.
