Westhampton Beach students are spending their summer mornings learning and playing as part of the district’s summer recreation program, which runs through the month of July.
During the four-week program, held at Westhampton Beach Elementary School, students in grades K-8 participate in a wide variety of activities, including science, computers, crafts and sports. For the first time, students are also spending time in the school’s greenhouse. Two days a week, the students learn to plant and harvest a variety of crops. High school students volunteer to assist with the program.
The summer program also provides an opportunity for incoming kindergartners to get acquainted with their new school and for older students and special education students to work on their academics through extended learning opportunities.
