Westhampton Beach High School senior Harvey Edwards has always been mechanically inclined, and his natural ability and hard work studying automotive technology at Eastern Suffolk BOCES earned him third place at the Greater New York Auto Dealers Association Regional Competition, held in Queens on Jan. 9.

Edwards, a second-year BOCES student, earned his spot in the top three by competing against his peers in a series of timed activity sets, including ones that focused on circuits, voltage and alignment. His win qualifies him to take part in the state competition in February.

When not working on cars and his own truck or at Otis Ford in Quogue, Edwards can be found at the Quogue Fire Department as a member of the Explorers program. He intends to become a full-fledged firefighter with the department in the near future.

In the fall, he plans to study diesel technology at Lincoln Tech.
