Need for speed
Westhampton Beach Middle School students recently constructed wooden cars as part of a technology unit of study on pneumatic dragsters.

As part of the project, the students in Richard Michta’s class worked for several weeks to design, build and refine cars that would go as fast as possible. They employed their mechanical drawing skills to create a multi-view design plan, as well as their fine motor skills build their dragsters using various tools and machines. The final step was optimizing their creations through different testing processes.

“The students learned that when they take their time and use precise construction, they can develop a successful dragster,” said Michta.
